WELCOME TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT PATHWAYS TO SUSTAINABLE TOURISM WORKSHOP PROGRAM

What is the Pathways Program?

The Pathways Program is an educational and instructional program designed to provide staff, managers and elected representatives in local government with the key steps required to plan for sustainable tourism.

The Pathways Program appeals to a broad range of council employees and stakeholders which include:

  • Elected representatives
  • Tourism development managers or senior officers
  • Economic development managers or senior officers
  • Planning and sustainability business units
  • Parks and recreation area managers and planners

The Five Step process

The Pathways Program provides a simple five-step process that involves:

      1.   Assessing the current situation, including the role of council and the importance of tourism
      2.   Identifying the key tourism stakeholders in your local and regional network
      3.   Planning for tourism
      4.   Implementing agreed actions, and
      5.   Monitoring and reviewing your success.

The Pathways Program includes practical examples, useful information and easy-to-use templates to guide you along the way.

How do I bring the Pathways Program to my organisation?

If you are in Queensland, the Pathways Program is available through the Local Government Association of Queensland. For more information, please contact Angela Quain on 07 3000 2212 or angela_quain@lgaq.asn.au.

There are three main ways that you can have Pathways run in your local government:

  • Engaging EC3 Global to facilitate: STCRC’s subsidiary company EC3 Global developed the Pathways Program based on STCRC research. EC3 have extensive experience in tourism strategy and consultation and are available to visit your organisation to run the Pathways Program at a cost. Please contact STCRC on the details below if you are interested in this option.
  • Training your staff to deliver: Alternatively, if there are a number of local governments in your region that would like to run the Pathways Program, EC3 Global can be engaged to do a one day ‘train the trainer’ session. EC3 Global can run a one day training session for the nominated facilitators from local governments. Facilitators will be guided through the course content and how best to tailor it and deliver it to their organisation.
  • Self-guided process: All of the resources to run the workshop program are provided free of charge by STCRC. Please contact STCRC for more information.
